A Mistake You Don’t Fix
Recently, I returned from a short trip to Amsterdam.
I brought along two rolls of film, and just yesterday, I received the scans from my local lab here in Sofia.
As I looked through the pictures, I started to enjoy their imperfections, the glimpses of light, and the sense of place I tried to capture. I found myself reflecting on a thought I came across earlier that morning.
In a book written centuries ago, Confucius wrote: “A mistake you don’t fix is a mistake.” That line stuck with me.
As I browsed through the contact sheets, I started to appreciate the flaws, for example, the missed focus, the strange angles, and the unexpected beauty. The mistakes I make in photography, just like in life, are often there to teach me something. A chance to approach a moment differently next time.
Here are a few frames from that trip I chose to share with you.
NOTE TO SELF: Mistakes are your teachers. Embrace them. Work with them. That’s how you grow.
